Source: NVM | The housing market has experienced little impact from the corona crisis up until now, according to estate agent’s association NVM. Since mid-March weekly sales via NVM estate agents have been around 2500 to 3000 homes per week, nearly the same number as before the corona measures went into effect.
Homes sales in the Netherlands remain steady during corona
It appears that home buyers are still thinking in possibilities. Interest rates are still low and the season also plays a positive role in the current numbers,” according to NVM chairman Onno Hoes. Home prices still appear to be on the rise. The price per square meter of purchased homes was over 1 percent higher between mid-April and mid-May than in the month prior to the onset of the corona crisis. An average home currently costs 333,000 euros; 7.7% higher than a year ago.
More rental properties due to less Airbnb
The number of homes in the non-regulated rental sector that have been put on the rental market has risen significantly in many regions compared to last year. “That is striking,” says the NVM. “A reduction in exploitation by Airbnb seems to be the logical explanation.” Very few tourists are currently visiting the Netherlands. In both Amsterdam and The Hague, 29 percent more homes were put on the rental market in the past eight weeks than in the same period last year.
