A stable investment climate and an improvement of the fiscal regime. These are two important key priorities that emerged during the investment briefing in London for a select group of international residential investors.
To underscore the importance of international capital for the Dutch rental housing market, Capital Value organised an investment briefing for over 30 international residential investors in London on April 9th. The meeting was organised in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning and the Dutch Embassy in the United Kingdom.
The enthusiasm for the meeting showed that there is still a lot of interest in the Dutch residential investment market. The meeting was characterised by a high level of interaction and significant interest in current developments.
Review of the programme
Following a welcome address by the Dutch Embassy, Thijs Konijnendijk, Director of Research at Capital Value, started with an explanation of the demographic and market developments in the context of other European countries. Arjan Peerboom, CEO, then elaborated on a number of recent transactions and current opportunities in the Dutch market.
From the Ministry, Hans Broere, Head of Programming and Direction at the Dutch Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning, provided an explanation of the policies and measures that the government has already taken (or still intends to undertake) to maintain housing production. Roel van de Bilt, Executive Partner at DEBTA B.V., concluded with a presentation on the financing of large residential portfolios in the Netherlands.
Arjan Peerboom, CEO: “International investors have traditionally played an important role in the Dutch residential investment market and are complementary to Dutch investors. They often invest in larger volumes and housing for specific target groups such as young people or the elderly. It was good to see that the Netherlands is still top of mind for investors from the United Kingdom. They are eager to invest, but emphasize the importance of a stable investment climate and an improvement in the fiscal regime in the Netherlands in order to be able to compete with other European countries.”
